2022 Hurricane Season has passed, so does the need still exist for solar power stations?
Unfortunately, yes as we saw with the power disruption from the Duke Energy substation vandalism in North Carolina and with severe damage from late season Tornadoes and heavier than expected snowfall amounts it would appear that there may always be a need for an emergency power source.
A power station that is connected to a solar panel or a solar panel array is a great way to cope with these unforeseen power disruptions. Some power stations are quipped with conventional Lead Acid batteries, and some are constructed using Lithium Batteries.
There are benefits and drawbacks to both and here is a brief comparison of the two.
Lead Acid Battery Stations
Lower Initial cost, Lower Cycle Life, from 200 - 500, Replacement Batteries may be easily available
Lithium Battery Stations
Higher Initial Cost , Higher Cycle Life, from 500 - 5000. Unfortunately a battery replacement may not be available
The amount of total power output for the Lead Acid power stations may also be a factor to determine which type of system to choose.
The typical power output range for the Lead acid stations is 1000 to 3000 watts. Lithium Battery Stations can range from 1000 – 10,000 watts.
No matter which power station type you may choose, it is a critical concern that you consider the recharge time for either type. The other factor to be concerned about is determined by the maximum power output and the size and number of solar panels you have.
Keep these recommendations in mind.
1) Although they may initially cost more to buy, In the long run a Lithium Battery power station is more likely to be less costly over time and provide more value.
2) Obtain and use the solar panel(s) with the greatest power output or add additional solar panels to your system so that you have more power available to offset the amount of sunlight available to you.
It can be hard to determine which is the very best power station and what size is necessary for your needs and that is why we are happy to work with clients to select the right type and size of power station. They want to be assured that the power station they buy from us is warrantied, supported, and serviced locally here in South Florida.
